Qantas had messed up my international flight because I needed to book an extra seat because I am fat. Initially it all went through great, the agent on the phone booked the flight and all was well, but then a week later Qantas cancelled my flight. I called back and because they couldn't guarantee it on the non-Qantas part of the trip so they had to cancel the whole flight. I had to pay to book my original ticket back, and they charged me an extra $1000 'because of the price difference between the tickets'. Then to get the extra seats for all 4 of those flights, (its a long way to the USA) they wanted to charge an extra $3000 for the extra seat! more than my original ticket! I called back, and back, and back again, only to get different information every time for over a week! I ranted about it on the internet and a friend suggested Adam. Well with in two weeks of engaging Adam, he convinced Qantas into giving me back my $1000 from their mistake. As well as booking the extra comfort seats for free, (well at the original quoted price, which was free) and they tried to have me on different flights to my husband for the same trip, he got them to fix that as well! He worked really fast as it was still a month out, but closer to the flight date, the less seats would be physically available. He was funny, clear and passionate and that offered great comfort. I would 100% recommend him for services.

Our despair at never seeing our money again changed to hope after Adam took on our fight with Etihad Airlines. Like thousands of others, Covid cancellations meant our once in a lifetime trip to Europe was over, however we did expect that our money would be refunded. How foolish was that. Adam fought endlessly for the return of what was rightfully ours. At times we thought things were going nowhere but Adam‘s message - ˋI never give up´ - kept our hopes alive. The battle took many months, but Adam kept up the frustrating effort of dealing with customer service staff whose job it is to make you give up. If it wasn’t for Adam, Etihad would still have our money, despite that being outright theft. Adam‘s job must be one of the most frustrating in the world. How he can deal with these thieves whose job it is to block your every attempt every day, is testament to his doggedness and tolerance of head banging exasperation. In February 23 I flew Qantas to Santiago Chile in business class. Primarily for the promised comfort etc of “better” seating. I’m an older taller heavy gent, with various aches and pains in the back, neck, knee and hip. Not obese just a “big unit”. Unfortunately my seat was broken and wasn’t adjustable and there was no alternative seating available on the flight. After 14 hrs flying I hobbled off the aircraft with various aches and pains.

Upon my return to Sydney in late March I lodged a simple request for a partial refund for the difference between economy and business class through the Qantas Customer Complaints website. After all I had not received what had paid for and in my mind and was entitled to a refund based on the difference between what I had received versus what I had paid for. I had been advised by the cabin crew to do this when I returned to Sydney. It went downhill from there.

After 6 months of emails between Qantas and myself that proved fruitless, frustrating and quite frankly appallingly feeble attempts by Qantas at resolution, as well as a letter printed in the Saturday SMH travel section and another in Crikey. I had gotten nowhere. Approaches to Airline Customer Advocate proved fruitless. I even suggested that I would commence private legal action against them, lodge a complaint with NSW consumer affairs and the federal ACCC. I asked to speak to someone in Qantas corporate to resolve my issues. Again, no response or attempt to resolve my complaint. Lots of platitudes but no actual resolution. I was starting to become quite energised at this point as I had the feeling, I was the victim of some “bait and switch” strategy by Qantas, who in my mind where acting a bit like a dodgy tradesman or car yard. Like what you see on a consumer affairs show.

As a last ditch strategy, I spoke to Adam, supplied him with copies of emails and tickets. Within 3 days of talking to him I had an out the blue phone call from Qantas Customer Services and we had an hour long phone call with Qantas apologising profusely and agreeing to refund the difference in ticket price. Within a few days I had the refund in my account. I cannot thank Adam enough for his efforts and recommend him without hesitation.

The beginning of 2020 was a rollercoaster of emotions. We had booked our first family holiday to attend a wedding in Western Australia. We had enlisted the aid of someone we knew, an independent franchisee travel agent, to book our flights, for our journey. However, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and life as we knew it was put on hold. The agent told us not to worry, that we wouldn’t lose out on anything and that we’d be given credit for the flights. We had six months to use it and had repay the booking fee. However, we weren’t satisfied with this, so we pushed and pushed and were eventually given three-year credit (as that's what Qantas were doing). We kept pushing, contacting Qantas multiple time only to be told we were entitled to our money back every time, but we needed the agent apply for it. We were offered a refund I was told by the agent that we’d have to pay a $400 fee for any money we were given back. When Qantas was giving full refunds, why did we have to pay for a refund? We tried again multiple times to challenge this decision but were told that we were lying about what they (Qantas) had said. We were in a difficult situation, as the total cost for the flights was just over $4000 and we had no way of getting it back. Then, one morning, we came across a post on a flight Facebook page that the agent had now joined and now were giving advice to people fighting to get money back. Thats what lit the fire in me to contact Adam Glezer for help. Remarkably, two weeks after reaching out to him, the CEO of the travel company agreed that we were entitled to a full refund for the entire cost of the trip. We are incredibly grateful to Adam for his help in this situation.

I booked and paid for a European River Cruise, from Budapest to Amsterdam, in 2020. Following the cancellation of this trip due to covid, I endeavoured to obtain a full refund (minus the admin fee) . I was offered a partial refund only with the travel company withholding $3,728 for their “overhead” costs!! I made several attempts to have this decision reviewed as I had heard of almost complete refunds being given to others for the same trip. In early 2020, my partner and I had booked flights from Cairns to Manila via Port Moresby for a 2 week holiday. We'd booked with Air Niugini using Webjet as the third-party provider. Our trip was cancelled due to Covid but we were reassured by Air Niugini that we could get a refund or book another trip once restrictions settled down. Of course, it was two years until we could comfortably book another trip. I kept in touch with Air Niugini, who refunded our lounge fees. These were purchased separately from the actual tickets through Webjet. Air Niugini also gave us a refund code to provide to Webjet. What followed has been two years of us trying to get our refund through Webjet with absolutely no progress. Webjet consistently told us that Air Niugini were refusing to pay our refund. Finally, I read an article that mentioned the Consumer Champion, Adam Glezer. I gave him a call and he got back to me a day later. Within a matter of hours, Adam had contacted both Webjet and Air Niugini and had confirmed Air Niugini had in fact agreed to the refund and Webjet were not providing correct information. Adam's dealing with the companies was amazing. He achieved more in a day than I had in 2 years. Within a couple of weeks, we'd received a refund. I can't recommend Adam enough. He was easy to deal with and kept me up to date at all stages of the process. I will work with Adam if ever I need someone in my corner to help figure out a dodgy situation!

In July 2022, my partner and I encountered a devastating situation where a Qantas mistake caused us both to miss our Emirates flight (through the Qantas and Emirates network). We spent 5 hours on the phone with Qantas (~2 on hold), missing our flights, and were forced to buy new tickets in 2 days time for $2,000. It didn't get any better. After filing a complaint with Qantas, we were kept in the dark for 4.5 months, only to receive a response that Qantas would not be held responsible for our situation. 3 months waiting for another reply, their offer? Just 5,000 Qantas Points. Then came in Adam Glezer. He handled every detail with such dedication and professionalism. In just a few weeks, not only were we reimbursed for the new flights, but also for meals, refreshments, accommodation, and airport transfers. Adam Glezer's service was exceptional and I can't recommend him enough.

When you are planning a trip and need to book airline tickets it seems so much easier to jump onto whichever site is the cheapest. Usually that means a web-based site. Before you do, have a read of my experience and consider again.


A little background – I’ve been doing overseas charity work for about 10 years. As each of my grandchildren get to about 12 years of age, I take them on a trip to introduce to how some of the rest of the world lives. In November 2019, I booked 3 tickets from Brisbane to Zimbabwe for the July of 2020. I booked this through GoToGate and they were South African Airlines tickets.  This was for me, and my then 11-year-old grandson, plus I had the joy of having his dad, my son, coming too. I was on Cloud 9.


Then the pandemic hit. I received an email in Feb 2020 from South African Airlines, cancelling the tickets due to the Pandemic. That was when the nightmare started. I rang GoToGate and asked for a refund of my tickets but this was denied and I was told I could only get credits but it had to be for exactly the same people and the same destinations. Nothing could change. I was initially also told the credit would only be offered for one year. I rang GoToGate so many times trying to explain that credits wouldn’t work because:

1. My grandson had turned 12 now and hence was considered an adult

2. I had no idea when the charity work could be re-started

3. There was no guarantee the next charity trip would be to Zimbabwe – it could be Congo, Uganda or Kenya.

Each time I was in effect told ‘too bad’. I also rang South African Airlines but was told I had to make enquiries through GoToGate. I then saw a legal firm was offering a template Letter of Demand for these situations. I downloaded the template, filled it in and posted it to both GoToGate and to South African Airways. By mid 2022 I was feeling completely defeated. Nothing I did seemed to have any impact. My tickets had cost me about $4,500 USD or about $6,000 AUD but I couldn’t see any way forward for getting my money back. I was crushed to lose this amount of money.


In October 2022, I read about Adam Glezer, the Consumer Champion in a newspaper article. I thought to myself – what have I got to lose. He might know better ways to get things moving for me. I contacted him and he agreed to help me. He found out that GoToGate had never asked South African Airways for a complete refund. He and I started ringing GoToGate re-explaining the situation and demanding a refund; not credits.


Suddenly, Adam found out that one ticket had been refunded by South African Airways earlier and the money paid to GoToGate. They had not passed that refund through to me. They held on to my money, with obviously no intention of giving back to me. We started focusing on that in our calls.


Suddenly in Feb 2023, the refund of that ticket appeared in my bank account. Note this is 3.5 years after I purchased it. We then put all out efforts into the remaining two tickets. In the next 4 months, Adam and I rang GoToGate 2-4 times a week; Adam rang South African Airlines and we just refused to go away.


In June 2023, I finally got the refund for my other two tickets.


Firstly Adam was an absolute Godsend! He never gave up and his perseverance was amazing. I will forever been in awe of what he achieved. Secondly it brought home to me so clearly how crazy it is that companies can be allowed to do this.

• GoToGate refused to help me at any stage

• They kept the money refunded by South African Airways with no intention of passing it back to me until Adam called them out on this

• GoToGate had kept my $6,000+ for 4 years with no interest paid to me, no apology etc. but then had the gall to charge me three lots of processing fees to refund my money. In any other industry they would have been charged with theft for keeping my refunded money and fined for taking 4 years to resolve an issue.


Why does the Airline industry get away with this?

I was caught up in double trouble having booked a flight with Thai Airways through Flight Centre. After three years of trying, it was impossible to get past the Flight Centre online booking call centre or the one at Thai Airways. Thai were using their bankruptcy as a way of delaying/avoiding having to refund fares. I was told several things by Thai, for example that I would have to wait until 2024 for a refund and that they had no record that I had cancelled the flights. Thai then told me to contact Flight Centre and finally they said they lost my booking. All rubbish.

In 2019 we paid to be included in a small group tour through a travel agent to Morocco with stopovers in Dubai on the way there and back. Plans went south. Months of nothing of substance from our travel agent. Then the tour designer, we found out on the grape vine, had left the travel agent and the country. Adam’s strength and determination is unwavering. He was in contact with the supplier in Morocco during the late hours of the night, and has kept this dialogue going and we have received an excellent outcome from Morocco. Adam’s knowledge on the laws is vast and growing and he could also switch hats and think like the travel agent. A party trick that I found disturbing but Adam got the results! We still have a final fight with our travel agent, to get our stopovers refunded, but I don’t doubt that Adam will succeed there as well. If you need someone to fight for you, to guide you, to hold your hand when you thought you lost everything, get in contact with Adam, you will not regret it.

Trip.com (travel agent) & Singapore Airlines (carrier) Round Trip - Brisbane to Cairns, Cairns to Singapore and then Singapore to London (return.) Singapore Airlines changed/cancelled the flight and put us on a new flight that was a day earlier: Cairns to Singapore then Singapore to London, HOWEVER they did not change the flight from Brisbane to Cairns, obviously this made it impossible for us to catch the Cairns to Singapore to London flight. This left us with no option but to try and change the first flight. Recently, I switched electricity retailers. My new retailer offered much lower feed-in tariffs, which was a shame but just the current market offering. I switched to a new provider and was then contacted by my original retailer, offering me a better deal, so within my 10 day cooling off period for my new contract, I switched back. I was only connected to the new provider from 13 - 19 July. Imagine my surprise to receive a bill that charged me these new rates from 30 June to 19 July. I never consented to backdating my agreement. The AER website says that when you change retailers, it will take affect from your NEXT meter reading. My terms and conditions of my contract listed the 10 day cooling off period. I called the new provider myself and was told there was nothing they could do. They were uninterested and unhelpful. It was only a $53 bill so I was about to pay it and be done with it. Adam called me on an unrelated matter (another battle he is helping me to fight!) and mentioned he was taking on Energy Retailers who are not acting transparently and fairly and I told him about this situation. One 3 way phone call later, all resolved and a full credit issued, no bill to pay. Above and beyond what I was seeking, I thought it was reasonable for me to pay at my contracted rates before my contract change but Adam worked his magic and had the entire bill credited. Just to hear him on the phone speaking up for my rights, and seeking fairness and transparency was amazing. What a fantastic service - thank you Adam!
